BlackBerry Curve 8350i se anunció y lanzo a finales de 2008 y para América latina en el primer trimestre de 2009 para Nextel Argentina, Nextel Brasil, Nextel México y Nextel Perú. Este smartphone ofrece servicios Push-to-Talk (PTT), en español Pulsar-Para-Hablar (PPH), International Durect Connect (IDC) y Wi-Fi.
Entonces había en América del Norte y América del Sur unos 10 millones de usuarios suscritos a la redes iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network), una tecnología inalámbrica que se desenvuelve con la infraestructura de Motorola, quien la desarrolló en 1994.
